AN IMMERSIVE GALLERY EXHIBITION
This project is inspired by the paradoxical actions of balloon release rituals. Once released, the balloon loses its function as a celebratory object and becomes a ‘thing’, possibly a relic and eventually trash. My creative activity follows this line of dualism: I carefully embroider the balloon while at the same time destroy it. The goal for these altered balloons is to record how far they can float with their punctures. The need to release is a timeless human need and the phrases I chose to release in my personal rituals are linked to the COVID-19 pandemic by their contemporary, emotional sources. The phrases include donated expressions along with my own so to appreciate what others are releasing during this frustrating time of isolation. I consider the phrases to be journals with the limit of two words.
