Under the 405 Freeway

My Los Angeles based studio is about 100 feet from the Washington Blvd. overpass / bridge of the gargantuan 405 Freeway.  For most of the past decade this dark double sided cave was abandoned, except for the parked cars of the employees of the Volvo dealership across the street. Today there are usually four or five people living and sleeping under my bridge.  There is the old man who lives in a cardboard box and yells a lot.  The women with the huge teddy bear, the guy with all the trash and the new arrival, a young man in a new camping tent. This dark space that I drive through twice a day, every day, has become a metaphor for the larger world that we are all living in today.
